New Basic Safety Training (BST) Certificate Requirements Effective January 1, 2026

From this date, all crew members are required to comply with the amendments to the STCW Code, Standard A-VI/1-4, adopted by Resolution MSC.560(108).

📌 What this means for seafarers:

• All basic safety training certificates (A-VI/1-1; A-VI/1-2; A-VI/1-3; A-VI/1-4) must be replaced with new ones before boarding a ship after January 1, 2026.
• Seafarers will be trained in measures to prevent and respond to violence and harassment (including sexual violence).
• Updated certificates will include the following note:
  “Including amendments to STCW Code A-VI/1-4 adopted by MSC.560(108).”

👉 The amendments are binding on everyone, regardless of citizenship.
