One of the vessels anchored off New Orleans Burnside encountered adverse weather conditions: overnight winds increased to 25-30 knots and heavy rain.

As a result of the increasing wind, the vessel’s stern began to drift to starboard, and at approximately 4:00 AM, the vessel lightly impacted a group of barges moored at a nearby berth. Damage was minor, and there were no injuries.

❗️Even when anchored seemingly safely, it is important to:

🔘regularly monitor the anchor chain and vessel’s position
🔘monitor weather forecasts, especially at night
🔘keep the crew prepared to respond to changing winds or currents

🍔Incidents like these serve as a reminder that attentiveness and preventative measures are key to safety at anchor.
