To check the seabed strength for the likelihood of punch-through, the first step before deploying a Jack-Up barge is to perform a Leg Penetration Analysis (LPA). This analysis is prepared based on the soil characteristics and the technical features of the barge.
The calculations are performed by a company that specializes in this field; the soil is analyzed using samples obtained by drilling in the work area. Based on this analysis, a conclusion is reached on the likelihood of punch-through.
The calculation involves calculating the load the seabed can withstand and comparing it with the weight of the Jack-Up distributed on its legs.
✈️ If the calculations indicate a likelihood of punch-through, then, in principle, you should avoid working in that location or have good insurance. 🙂
