After leaving New York, the vessel was hit by a cyberattack that affected its GPS position, disabling its ECDIS and radar, and impacting other navigation systems due to the opening of a malicious email.
As a result of the navigational disruption, the vessel collided with a tanker carrying over 32,000 tons of naphtha, after which the tanker ran aground.
