The world’s largest container carriers announced the launch of new direct services between China and Peru, amid rapid growth in cargo traffic and the opening of the new strategic port of Chancay in Peru, built with the participation of COSCO Shipping.

📍MSC launches a direct weekly service from Ningbo to Callao, Peru. The journey time is approximately 23 days, almost twice as fast as previous routes, which took 40-45 days.

🚢 COSCO Shipping has already outpaced its competitors.

🔘Chinese giant COSCO launched its first vessel on the new Shanghai-Chancay route, delivering containers in approximately 21 days.

🔘The port of Chancay has become a key link in the “Maritime Silk Road” project in South America and is now capable of handling the largest megamax vessels.

🌍 Why is this important?

  • Direct routes are becoming the new standard: less congestion, fewer delays, more stable schedules
  • Logistics costs for Peruvian importers and exporters could decrease due to shorter delivery times and reduced risks
  • The South American market is receiving a major boost as Chancay becomes the largest hub in the Eastern Pacific
  • Competition between MSC and COSCO is intensifying, which could lead to additional services and better rates
