Finnish authorities have released new details regarding the incident involving damage to an underwater telecommunications cable in the Baltic Sea. According to the investigation, the ship dragged its anchor along the seabed for dozens of kilometers before the cable was severed.
Anchor marks on the seabed made it possible to reconstruct the ship’s route and confirm its connection to the accident. The damaged cable is critical infrastructure and provides international communications between countries in the region.
✈️ The ship has been detained by Finnish authorities, and a legal and technical investigation is underway. Based on the investigation, the shipowner may face claims for damages and repair work.
