According to their reports, the vessels SPARTA and MYS ZHELANIYA were spotted off the coast of Portugal. Both ships departed from Baltiysk on January 1, with their stated destination being Egypt.
The vessels are believed to be transporting critical components and equipment for the construction of the El Daaba Nuclear Power Plant, which is being built in Egypt with the participation of Rosatom. This theory is supported by the escort ship, the Project 1155 large anti-submarine ship Severomorsk of the Russian Navy.
✈️At the same time, Western analysts are not ruling out an alternative route scenario—a call to Syria (Tartus) or Libya. Both vessels have previously been sanctioned for their involvement in similar logistics operations.
