The tanker is drifting off the coast of Algeria, Bloomberg reports, citing ship tracking data.
The sanctioned vessel is carrying approximately 730,000 barrels (approximately 100,000 tons) of Russian oil.
The tanker was traveling along the coast of North Africa toward the Suez Canal, but on January 21, it suddenly turned north and went off course.
Early in the morning of January 22, the vessel’s navigation status changed to “Not under command,” and its speed dropped to approximately one knot. Vessels in this status are unable to maneuver, including giving way to other vessels.
As of January 23, the tanker continued to drift eastward.
