The US is returning to Venezuela an oil tanker seized in January, two US officials told Reuters.
The tanker in question is the Panamanian-flagged M/T Sophia. According to the agency, this is the first known instance of the Trump administration returning a vessel previously detained under sanctions.
The reasons for this decision have not been officially disclosed. It is also unclear whether the legal or sanctions grounds for the tanker’s previous seizure have been changed.
