Today, more and more seafarers who have worked on expedition ships are considering a transfer to the passenger fleet. And this is truly an excellent opportunity—after all, your experience already meets many of the cruise line’s requirements. 🌍
🗣 Why expeditionary seafarers are in demand:
🟠Experience working in challenging climatic and navigational conditions
🟠Understanding of service standards and interaction with passengers
🟠Ability to work in an international team where discipline and responsibility are essential
📑 Crew Performance Report/Appraisal Form/Evaluation — mandatory for transfer!
When applying to the passenger fleet, all candidates (officers and ratings) must provide a current reference from their most recent vessel. This confirms their professional qualities, leadership skills, discipline, and recommendations from senior personnel. Without this document, the company pays less attention to such a candidate.
🗣 Who are passenger companies looking for (with the possibility of getting hired without passenger fleet experience):
👨✈️ Deck Department:
Officers – mainly 3rd Officer, 2nd Officer
Ratings – AB, OS
⚙️ Engine Department:
Engine Officers – 3rd Engineer, 2nd Engineer
Ratings – Motorman, Fitter, and Wiper
🔌 Electrical / ETO:
3rd Electrical Engineer, 2nd Electrical Engineer
Ratings – Electrical Technician, Electrician
🛳 Benefits of the passenger fleet:
🟠Work on modern, world-class ships (Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, MSC, Virgin Voyages, NCL, etc.).
🟠Stable contracts and high salaries
🟠International experience and career growth—from enlisted to senior officer
✈️ It’s not an easy path, but with a well-formatted resume, a well-submitted application, and an up-to-date Crew Performance Report, it’s possible.
