The abbreviation Cl. 1.6 (or CI. 1.6) on a pressure gauge indicates accuracy class 1.6. Here’s what this means from a technical perspective:
🔘 Maximum Permissible Error
Indicates that the maximum permissible error in the pressure gauge reading is ±1.6% of the full scale (F.S.) limit.
🔘 Practical Significance
If a pressure gauge has a measuring range of 0 to 100 bar, the actual error can be up to ±1.6 bar of the instrument reading.
🔘 Industrial Standard
Accuracy Class 1.6 is a common standard for industrial pressure gauges and is often used on gauges with a scale diameter greater than 60 mm (e.g., Ø100 mm), which are widely used in marine applications.
🔘 Class 1.6 vs. 1.5
Class 1.6 has replaced the outdated Class 1.5 in accordance with modern technical standards (R5 preferred number system). In terms of accuracy, 1.6 is practically equivalent to the previous 1.5 class.
📌 Important: the lower the accuracy class, the higher the accuracy of the device.
Example:
- Measurement range: 0–100 bar
- Accuracy class: 1.6
- Maximum permissible error: 100 × 1.6% = ±1.6 bar
