If you are staying in the country for more than 12 months and driving a car with Ukrainian license plates, you must re-register it and obtain German license plates.
After a year of residence, the Ukrainian “green card” is no longer valid, so you will need local insurance and a vehicle inspection (TÜV or DEKRA).
Otherwise, you may be fined or have your car towed at the owner’s expense. It’s best to check the deadlines in advance to avoid problems before your flight or during your vacation.
