Slovakia’s residence permit remains one of the most popular options for seafarers seeking freedom of movement within Europe and stable status in the EU.

We regularly receive questions from you, so we continue to answer the most frequently asked ones 👇

❓ Are there any restrictions on travel outside the Schengen area?
It is recommended not to stay outside the Schengen area for more than 90 days in any 180-day period.

However, in practice, many of our clients have traveled for longer periods and
returned without any problems.

Working as a seafarer is not an obstacle to obtaining a Slovakian residence permit.

❓ Do seafarers need to pay taxes after receiving a residence permit?
The mere fact of having this type of residence permit does not automatically imply tax liability in Slovakia.

If you work outside Slovakia and are not a tax resident, you are not obligated to pay taxes in Slovakia.

❓ Is permanent residence in Slovakia mandatory?
No, permanent residence in Slovakia is not a requirement.

You can reside in another country, come to Slovakia as needed, and take advantage of the opportunities afforded by a residence permit.
