Many applicants pay close attention to document preparation and the interview, but forget that the first thing the consular officer sees is the DS-160 form.
This is why any inaccuracies can raise additional questions and, in some cases, even affect the final visa decision.
The most common errors when completing the DS-160 form are:
📌 Date Errors
Incorrect dates of work, study, travel, or residence. Even minor discrepancies with documents can raise questions.
📌 Information Discrepancies
For example, the form contains one piece of information, while previous visa applications, documents, or the interview contain different information. The consular officer will look for such discrepancies.
📌 Employment Errors
Incorrect job title, duties, company name, or employment period. All information must be accurate and factual.
📌 Illogical answers
Sometimes individual answers contradict each other. For example, the purpose of your trip
doesn’t match the itinerary, marital status, or other information on the application. These issues can raise additional questions.
❗️Why is this important?
The DS-160 application form is the basis of your visa application. The consular officer reviews it before the interview and formulates questions based on it. Therefore, the more accurately and logically the application form is completed, the smoother the interview will be.
