Greece and Ukraine have signed a key energy agreement that will provide Ukraine with additional gas volumes for the 2025-2026 winter period. The contract was signed during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Athens on November 16.

According to the agreement, the state-owned Greek energy company DEPA Commercial SA will supply Ukraine with American liquefied natural gas, which will be delivered by tankers to Greek regasification terminals and then transported through the European pipeline system to Ukraine.

💶 The preliminary financing volume for the deal is estimated at €2 billion (approximately $2.3 billion). The funds will ensure stable LNG supplies from December 2025 to March 2026, when gas consumption in Ukraine is traditionally at its highest.

⚡️ Why the agreement is important:

🟢 Ukraine strengthens energy security by reducing dependence on unstable routes. 🟢 Greece is strengthening its role as a regional gas hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.
🟢 Utilization of Greek LNG terminals, primarily Revythusa and Alexandroupoli, is increasing.
🟢 Increased LNG tanker traffic in the Aegean Sea and subsequent regasification for supply to the European network are expected.
