Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, operated by DP World, set a new record: 630,000 tonnes of breakbulk cargo were handled there in October 2025 – the highest monthly volume in nearly two decades. This growth is driven by major infrastructure projects in the UAE: the expansion of the Dubai Metro (Blue Line), construction of facilities for the Expo District, and the modernization of Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC).
In 2024, breakbulk volumes at the port increased by 23%, reaching 5.36 million tonnes – and demand continues to grow in 2025. Jebel Ali remains a key logistics hub in the Persian Gulf, handling heavy and oversized cargo, steel, equipment, and project logistics for the region’s largest construction projects.
📌 Important information for seafarers:
— An increase in the number of voyages carrying construction, industrial, and heavy-lift cargo is expected.
— Shipowners are strengthening their fleets operating in the Persian Gulf, meaning more contracts and opportunities for specialists with experience in breakbulk/project cargo.
— Due to high port congestion, schedule changes, unloading delays, and intensive operations during vessel calls are possible.
