Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has officially become the first container line in history to exceed 7 million TEUs in total capacity.
π It took MSC just 15 months to reach this milestone, from the time the company first surpassed the 6 million TEU mark.
The growth was driven by active acquisitions of used vessels and the commissioning of 68 new container ships, including several ultra-large vessels with a capacity of over 24,000 TEUs.
π¦ According to experts, MSC’s share of the global container shipping market has reached 21.2%, significantly outpacing its closest competitor, Maersk.
The company continues to strengthen its position by actively developing its network of terminals and logistics centers, as well as investing in LNG- and methanol-powered vessels to reduce the fleet’s carbon footprint.
π¬ Analysts note that the aggressive strategy MSC’s fleet expansion has changed the balance of power in the industry. While MSC and Maersk were neck-and-neck in the early 2020s, today MSC is the undisputed leader in global shipping.
