The strongest cyclone of the year has hit the region and has already been dubbed the “king of storms.” Its effects are being felt in the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and southern China.

▪️ In the Philippines: at least 3 dead, thousands evacuated, flooding and landslides
▪️ In Taiwan: roads and bridges destroyed, more than 7,000 people evacuated
▪️ In China (Guangdong Province): 370,000 people displaced, mass evacuations are being prepared
✈️ Aviation chaos
- About 700 flights have been cancelled in Hong Kong.
- Cathay Pacific: about 500 flights. • HK Express — about 100.
- Hong Kong Airlines — about 90-100 flights.
- Emirates and several other airlines also announced flight cancellations to the region.
📍 Where is the typhoon now?
Hong Kong has raised Storm Signal No. 8 (two levels below maximum). In China, the typhoon is expected to make landfall between the cities of Taishan and Zhanjiang.
