An unusual incident occurred off the coast of the Bahamas: the cargo barge Brooklyn Bridge, owned by the American company Trailer Bridge, was looted after it lost tow and ran aground due to a mechanical failure.

πŸ“Œ On November 11, 2025, the tugboat Southern Dawn, which was towing the barge from Jacksonville to Puerto Rico, experienced a technical failure. Amid strong winds, the towline snapped, and the out-of-control barge was driven onto reefs approximately 3 nautical miles from the Bahamas. The vessel was left adrift, unable to maneuver.

While the company awaited rescuers and reported the incident to the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy, approximately 50 people boarded the barge during the night and began looting the cargo. According to local media and police, some of the goods transported in trailers were removed from the barge.

πŸ’¬ Bahamas port authorities stated that, according to preliminary assessments, the barge’s hull did not sustain critical damage, and there is no threat of a fuel spill. A detailed inspection is underway.
