Starting October 28, 2025, the new Entry/Exit System (EES)—a common EU database that will replace the traditional stamps in passports—began operating at all border crossings between Ukraine and Hungary.
What happens now at the border:
🟦Fingerprints are taken;
🟦Face photos are taken;
🟦Passports are scanned to enter the data into the electronic system.
🧭 Initially, the EES was tested at the Beregsurány-Lužanka and Záhony-Chop border crossings, and now the system is operational at all Hungarian border crossings.
💬Border guards note that the border crossing rules have not changed, but the procedure may take slightly longer due to the collection of biometric data, especially upon first entry. The information is then stored in a common EU database.
The EES system will automatically track compliance with the “90-day stay within 180 days” rule and will simplify entry and exit controls for all non-EU citizens.
🇵🇱 At the Ukrainian-Polish border, the system is still being fully implemented—there is no official confirmation yet that the EES is operational at all Polish checkpoints.
