🟢The new procedure will allow the EU to suspend visa-free travel for a specific country based on security concerns.

🟢Restrictions may initially be introduced temporarily, during the investigation and dialogue, and then, if the situation does not improve, permanently.

Based on these restrictions, these could include an increase in crime committed by citizens of a particular country, an increase in the number of entry refusals, unsuccessful asylum applications, or overstays in the Schengen area.

☑️ The reform was approved by 518 votes in favor, 96 against, and 24 abstentions. EU member states are expected to follow the European Parliament’s lead on November 17, with the new rules coming into force in December.

The measures will apply to all 61 countries enjoying visa-free travel with the EU, including the Western Balkans, Moldova, and Ukraine 🇺🇦
