No “we’re at the origins.”
No historical speeches.
They just went and adopted it.
And Ukraine…
Ukraine has been preparing since 2006.
Preparing to adopt.
Preparing to sign.
Preparing to explain why, again, it’s not now.
The Solomon Islands adopted.
We’re discussing.
They signed.
We’ve checked the “in progress” box.
But our “suitcases” are experienced.
They tell us how they were at the origins of the 2006 MLC.
How they fought for their sailors.
How they shaped the future.
They remember the origins.
But not the signature.
Because telling is easier than ratifying.
Speaking is safer than responding. The belly button, you know, is a bit soft.
We seem to have an MLC.
But it’s just… in words.
But it sounds powerful.
Very powerful.
P.S. What part of the world are we from, anyway, if the island nation is already ahead of us?
