Danish maritime authorities detained the container ship Nora, anchored in the country’s territorial waters, after discovering discrepancies in its registration data. The decision was made pending confirmation of the vessel’s current status from the flag state.
🇰🇲 According to the Danish Maritime Authority, the vessel was previously flagged in the Comoros Islands, but the relevant registry reported no record of its registration. After changing its flag to the Iranian flag, authorities initiated an inspection of the vessel’s documentation and technical condition.
🚢 The container ship will remain detained pending the completion of procedures and a Port State Control inspection. The ship’s release is possible only after confirmation of the legitimacy of its registration and the validity of its ship certificates.
Industry sources note that the vessel’s IMO number matches the identifier of a container ship, CERUS, previously listed under US sanctions. Since the IMO number is assigned to a hull for its entire service life, a change of name or flag does not affect its identification.
✈️ The investigation is ongoing. The vessel has been idle for several weeks, and further action will depend on the results of the document check and compliance with international shipping regulations.
