New regulations of the Bahamas Maritime Authority will come into effect on April 1, 2026. These include changes to vessel registration, fees, standards for seafarers, inspections, and incident investigations.
This is the first complete revision in 15 years. The laws have been made more flexible, allowing them to be more quickly adjusted to market and IMO requirements. Investigative capabilities have been strengthened, and inspections have been more clearly defined.
🔺This means it will be easier to manage documents on Bahamian vessels, inspections will be more transparent, and safety regulations will be clearer.
The Bahamas is bringing its regulations up to international standards to maintain its position among the top flags.
