The Trump administration is launching a reform of offshore oil and gas regulation.
🔺 What’s happening:
— two key regulators are being merged:
- Bureau of Ocean Energy Management
- Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement
👉 into a new structure—Marine Minerals Administration
đź”»These agencies were separated after the 2010 disaster. An explosion on a drilling platform killed 11 people and caused the largest oil spill in US history.
After this, the regulators were deliberately separated to avoid conflicts of interest.
✔️ What they want to achieve now:
— faster approvals and permits
— less bureaucracy
— unified management of offshore projects
🚢 The US plans to expand production:
— dozens of new auctions in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska
— development of offshore mineral production
