We are often asked: is there any advantage to taking the CES test at the Management Level instead of the Operational Level? Letβs break it down π
π The main thing is not to look at which level is “higher,” but rather at the specific purpose for which you need the CES test.
If you want to obtain a Masterβs (Captainβs) CoC (Certificate of Competency), you must take the CES test specifically for the Master level.
If your goal is to obtain a Second Engineer CoC, the test must be for the Second Engineer level.
The same applies to the Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW): to obtain this CoC, you need to pass the relevant national exam or the CES test for an OICNW, not for a Chief Officer.
Why? Because the CES test for Chief Officer is designed specifically for obtaining the Chief Officer CoC, not the OICNW CoC.
π Therefore, simply taking a test “at a higher level” makes no senseβit is crucial that the test corresponds to the specific CoC you wish to obtain.
