To obtain a Polish seaman’s passport, a notarized deed must be executed by proxy. At first glance, this seems like a simple formality, but it is at this stage that many seafarers encounter problems. However, there is a nuance that many seafarers only learn about on the day of the appointment. This results in rescheduling the appointment, wasting time, and incurring additional costs.
👉 One of the most common mistakes is assuming that a friend, acquaintance, or relative who speaks Polish can act as a translator.
📌 In practice, this is not the case. If you are not fluent in Polish, the notary may require the presence of a sworn translator. However, an ordinary translator or someone who simply speaks the language well is not suitable—they must have official sworn translator status in Poland.
An exception is possible only if you truly communicate fluently in Polish, and the notary verifies this during the conversation.
