Before a new contract, almost every one of us tries to learn as much as possible about the future ship.
- What is the technical condition?
- What are the conditions on board?
- How are crew changes organized?
- What is the atmosphere in the crew?
- Does the company fulfill its obligations?
Usually, answers are sought among friends and colleagues, in Telegram chats, Facebook groups and other maritime communities.
But such a search can take a lot of time. You have to write to acquaintances, ask questions in different groups, wait for answers and constantly monitor chats. Even if you manage to find the necessary information, after a while it gets lost among hundreds of new messages – and you have to start all over again.
And what if information about a ship could be found in one place – simply by entering its name or IMO number?
That is why GYRO Team created Ship Reviews – an international database of ship reviews.
Sailors can find a specific ship and view reviews from other crew members, as well as share their own experience by leaving an open or anonymous review.
You can find a ship by name or IMO number, which allows you to check the exact ship for which you are offered a contract.
The main idea is simple:
Before the contract – learn more about the ship. After the contract – share your experience.
What can you learn from reviews?
The official characteristics of the ship can tell a lot about its type, age, flag or technical parameters.
But they will not tell you how people work and live on this ship every day. That is why seafarers’ reviews can contain information about:
- technical condition,
- living conditions,
- food and provisions,
- internet access,
- atmosphere in the crew,
- work organization,
- attitude to safety,
- timeliness of crew change
- general impressions of the contract.
This gives you an opportunity to see the ship through the eyes of people who have already worked on it.
Any experience can be subjective.
On the same ship, crews and management change. The ship undergoes repairs and docking. Conditions can improve or worsen.
That is why the value of the system increases with the number of reviews.
One review is a personal experience. Dozens of reviews from different sailors are an opportunity to see a trend.

Why is your review important?
Imagine a simple situation. You are offered a ship on which you have never worked.
You enter its IMO number and find several reviews.
One sailor spoke about the technical condition. Another – about the living conditions. A third – about the crew. Someone else shared information about the crew change.
Now, before making a decision, you have information from people who have already been on this ship.
And it appeared only because after their contract, someone took a few minutes and left a review.
Today, someone else’s experience helps you. Tomorrow, your experience can help someone else.
Don’t let useful information disappear in chat rooms
Sailors have always exchanged information about ships.
The problem is that most of this experience remains in private conversations and marine chat rooms, where it is almost impossible to find it after a few weeks.
GYRO Ship Reviews allows you to save this information and make it available to future crews.
Share what was really important to you during your contract. Write honestly, to the point and based on your own experience. You can leave your review anonymously if you wish.
Your contract has ended. Your experience has not.
